I am taking a bit of a departure from my normal email to simply tell you this… Your IT is hiding neglect and you have no idea.
How do I know?
Well, I have conducted hundreds of IT assessments over my years and I know without a shadow of a doubt that your IT company is not managed or priced correctly to give you a properly built network.
The websites all look similar, the tools are similar, the pricing is similar and you think, I’ll just go with the company I vibe with the best. I don’t blame you. You don’t know the right questions to ask and they don’t offer up visibility that would hold them accountable.
For over 15yrs I have been taking over management of SMB networks and have seen:
Completely open firewalls
Common users with Global Admin rights
Failed backups for over a year
Raid arrays totally misconfigured
Rampant file permissions issues
DNS and Domain debacles
I could literally write a book if I listed everything. You get the point.

So you may be asking, how do I not know? Everything seems to be working?
Well, in tech, misconfigurations and negligence doesn’t have to be obvious. In many cases you will still function fine, or just experience small weird issues now and again. You really notice it when you need to restore the file and can’t. Or, when you get ransomware because someone didn’t close down an open port. Or, when your server crashes because it was configured with a RAID 0 instead of a RAID 1.
I am trying to make you aware of a really important issue. IT support companies (even the good ones), are mismanaged and they don’t do the basics right. They overlook things, they use cheap labor for important tasks, they rush, and many of them simply think their tools will do all the work.
If you were to buy a home, you would get an inspection. Your network needs an inspection every year. You need to see a full report.
For most companies, IT is one of the biggest risks to their operations, so it makes sense to budget a few thousand every year to have peace of mind.
Until next week,
